What to photograph on a job (without freaking out the homeowner)
A simple system for getting usable content on every job, respectfully.
Always ask first — a quick 'mind if I snap a couple photos for our page, nothing with you or personal items in it' takes ten seconds and avoids any awkwardness.
Focus on surfaces, not spaces. A close-up of a shining countertop or a streak-free window says more than a wide shot of someone's living room, and it keeps the homeowner's privacy intact.
Get the before shot the moment you walk in, before you've touched anything — you'll forget once you start cleaning.
Shoot in natural light when you can. A photo by a window will always outperform one under yellow kitchen lighting.
Keep a simple mental checklist: one before/after pair, one detail shot (grout, stainless steel, glass), one 'in progress' action shot. That's enough for a week of content from a single job.
